SONY annuncia l'uscita del tanto atteso Firmware 2.00 per le console USA contraddistinte dalla sigla PSP-1001 K. Lo annuncia nella suo sito ufficiale (a Questo link) con il seguente comunicato:

Notice: This update is for customers who own the PSP™ (PlayStationPortable) model number PSP-1001 K. DO NOT update your PSP™ system through this Web site if you own a different model of the PSP™ system. There is no guarantee of proper operation with other models of the PSP™ system.

An update to PSP™ system features was made available on August 24, 2005.
Internet Browser User License Agreement
With this update, the system software is version 2.00.
Features updated in system update version 2.00 include:

Network

* An Internet browser has been added. More

Video

* 4:3 Screen Mode has been added (for video saved on Memory Stick Duo™ media).
* Go To feature has been added (for UMD™VIDEO and UMD™MUSIC).
* A-B Repeat feature has been added (for UMD™VIDEO, UMD™MUSIC and video saved on Memory Stick Duo™ media).
* Audio options have been added (for video saved on Memory Stick Duo™ media).
* MP4 (AVC) has been added as a playable file format (for video saved on Memory Stick Duo™ media).


Music

* The combination of SonicStage™ version 3.2 (or later) and PSP™ system software 2.00 (or later) has made it possible for music files in ATRAC3 plus™ format to be transferred to a Memory Stick PRO Duo™.
* MP4 (the audio codec for MP4 format audio files is MPEG-4 AAC) and WAV (Linear PCM) have been added as playable file formats (for music saved on Memory Stick Duo™ media).

Photo

* Wallpaper feature has been added.
* Image transfer feature has been added.
* TIFF, GIF, PNG and BMP have been added as viewable file formats.

Settings

* Korean has been added as a system language in System Settings.
* Character Set has been added in System Settings.
* Theme Settings has been added.
* Internet Browser Start Control has been added as a security mode in Security Settings.
* WPA-PSK (TKIP) has been added as a security mode in Network Settings.
* Web address shortcut feature has been added as an input mode for the on-screen keyboard.


Come si poteva supporre il firmware è sostanzialmente diverso da quello rilasciato a luglio per le console Giapponesi; non ci si poteva però aspettare che SONY togliesse dai propri server la vecchia versione 2.00 JAP e la sovrascrivesse con una versione identica (che potete trovare a questo link) a quella uscita ieri per le USA.
Analizzando i 3 file ci si accorge infatti di questa cosa:

Questo non fa che alimentare le voci di una possibile falla nel "vecchio" 2.0 JAP.
Anche confrontandone le dimensioni si nota che:

Nuovo Firmware 2.00 USA (e pure nuovo JAP):

16,732,033 bytes

A smentire alcune indiscrezioni trapelate nelle ultime ore confermiamo che è possibile modificare il background (o sfondo che dir si voglia) solo che questa feature è settata di default in OFF. Abilitandola offre la possibilità di associare allo sfondo qualsiasi immagine dotata delle caratteristiche necessarie.

Trovate il firmware 2.00 USA e 2.00 JAP (sia nuovo che vecchio) nella nostra Sezione Download. Sfrutto l'occasione per ribadirvi che allo stato attuale ogni upgrade superiore alla 1.50 non vi consentirà più di far girare software homebrew sulla vostra PSP.
